Cheer squad third at Springfield

The Sweet Home cheer squad took third place in a seven-team 3A field at the competitive Springfield Invitational Saturday, Jan. 14.

The Huskies lost one of their main bases, the members who form the base of the pyramid during stunts, to a knee injury, so alternate Stefani Crocker had to step in and “did so well,” said coach Crystal Kimball.

“She learned the routine in a few days and had to be taught the stunts,” Kimball said. “It takes months to get timing down for those stunts, so we did very well with the hurdle we had this week.”

Kimball noted Sweet Home will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 21, at the McKay Invitational.

“This team amazes me,” she said. “They are a group of very determined girls. I am very proud of them. Hopefully, we will have no more set-backs.”
