As part of National Child Abuse Awareness Month, Sweet Home Police Department is inviting everyone to join in “planting a happy, healthy and safe pinwheel garden for kids” at 12:15 p.m. on Friday.
The department is encouraging local residents show up and support children in the community. Police Chief Jeff Lynn will kick off the ceremony with a short welcome before the planting.
The pinwheels symbolize the innocence and happiness of a healthy childhood.
Blue Mylar pinwheels will be available for a $1 donation. They may be planted in the SHPD pinwheel garden or taken and planted at home or a business. Part of the donation will be given to the ABC House in Albany.
SHPD asks businesses to consider sending a representative.
Paper pinwheels will be available for children to make onsite. SHPD volunteers will place blue ribbons throughout town as additional awareness about child abuse.
For more information, contact Community Services Officer Gina Riley at (541) 367-5181.
