Members of Freedom Hill Church joined forces last week to distribute a little Christian love to the family of a girl who attends their Sunday School.
They spent most of Thursday, July 2, painting a mobile home and cleaning up the property at Tamarack Ridge Estates.
“This was just a little girl who came to our church before COVID, when we had a kids program,” said Leorah Burton, one of the volunteers. “We found out they needed help. We decided this is a good way we could help somebody.”
Nine volunteers hauled away two loads of unneeded items, “cleaned everything up” and painted the structure, she said.
Participants were Burton and her husband Sam, Randy and Kandy Burrows, Scott Buckley, Rick Herschberger, Helen and Mike Miner, Bob Edwards and Jeff Dankenbring.
Yaneeta Cerritos, who lives in the home owned by her mother, Darlene Roman, said the family has had some financial difficulties recently. Cerritos, who has spinal bifida and was observing the progress from her wheelchair, said her 8-year-old daughter Darlotta has been going to Freedom Hill.
“To me, it’s a blessing,” she said, noting that her mother suffers from health problems “and can’t do this by herself.”
Burton said the Bible directs Christians to help others.
“This was a good opportunity to work together and help someone.”
