Circuit Court: Local woman pleads no contest to vehicle theft

Carrie Lynn Whitten of Sweet Home pleaded no contest May 28 in Linn County Circuit Court to unauthorized use of a vehicle and was sentenced to 40 days in jail with credit for time served, 18 months probation and a one-year license suspension.

She was fined $200.

Whitten had been arrested on May 7 at Thriftway, 621 Main St., when a caller reported seeing a vehicle the caller had reported stolen.

Sweet Home police reported recovering the stolen vehicle and arrested Whitten, 37, and Joshua David Taylor, 21, on warrants and a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The Linn County district attorney had not filed a case against Taylor as of Monday.
