Citizens sought for committee that will review Sweet Home’s charter

The City of Sweet Home is seeking citizens to serve on a committee that will be tasked with reviewing and possibly recommending changes to the city charter.

The committee’s role will review the charter – the city’s governing document, which dictates how the city operates, as the U.S. Constitution and Oregon Constitution do for the federal and state governments. If necessary, it will make recommendations for changes.

Members will be appointed by the City Council and include three citizens at-large, two past city councilors and two current city councilors.

The city manager will serve as technical adviser to the committee.

The time commitment will be six to 12 months.

Any changes to the city charter must be authorized by the City Council, followed by a vote by Sweet Home citizens in an election.

Already agreeing to serve on the committee are current City Council members Dave Trask and Diane Gerson and former mayor Tim McQueary.

Interested citizens should complete an application and turn it into the city manager’s office, City Hall, 1140 12th Ave., by 5 p.m. on Sept. 21.

Signed applications also may be emailed to [email protected].

For more information call the city manager’s office at (541) 367-8969 or visit sweethomeor.gov.
