Of The New Era
The Sweet Home City Council awarded a contract on June 10 to PACE Heating and Air to install heating and air conditioning equipment at the city’s new maintenance yard, located at 1320 24th Ave.
The contract is for $24,005 plus a 5-percent contingency.
The city purchased the property, formerly owned and used by Wimer Trucking, earlier this year from Weyerhaeuser for $250,000, estimating it would cost $130,000 to make the facility usable again.
The city is using money from its building reserve fund to complete the project.
Present at the meeting were Mayor Craig Fentiman and councilors Eric Markell, Rich Rowley and Scott McKee Jr. Councilors Jim Bean, Jim Gourley and Greg Mahler were absent.
In other business, the council:
– Agreed to participate in a fund exchange program with the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Funds from the program are used for local projects, such as street overlays.
The program provides $94 in state funds for each $100 in federal funds controlled by the city.
The city will exchange $95,044 federal dollars for $89,341 in state dollars to be used primarily on the 12th Avenue bridge and culvert replacement, Public Works Director Mike Adams said.
– Chose to make no recommendation to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission on whether to grant a liquor license to David and Deborah Johnson, Sweet Home Gas and Deli, 1810 Main St., formerly Sweet Home Texaco, for off premises sale.
Voting to make no recommendation were Rowley, Markell and McKee. Fentiman voted against the lack of recommendation.
