Bob McIntire resigned last week from the Sweet Home City Council after serving nine years.

“Due to health and a possible conflict of interest, I find myself in the position where I will no longer be able to continue my position as a city councilor, to be able to complete my last three-year term,” McIntire said in his letter of resignation. “This is effective immediately.”

The letter was dated Nov. 20. McIntire was appointed to the council on March 10, 1998 and was re-elected twice.

“Keep up the good work and continue our great leadership,” he said in the letter to the city and council. “I will miss all of you. God bless, and obey the Golden Rule.”

City Manager Craig Martin said McIntire will be missed at City Hall.

“It’s been a real pleasure to work with him on the council,” Martin said. “He’s always been real supportive of the city and city staff.

“I certainly wish him well and hope that he’s able to get some time in the future to be involved in other city functions.”

Mayor Craig Fentiman said McIntire could be counted on to back things that he believed were in the city’s interest.

“He was very supportive of anything the city and the council wanted to do,” Fentiman said. “He was very much a team player. His only interest was the best interests of the city. He was always ready to pitch in and help do whatever he could.”

“It was part of my life,” McIntire said. “What I hope is sometime I’ll be able to get back on the council.”

Regarding the possible conflict of interest, McIntire said he would be involved in a possible property transaction he wanted to propose to the council.

The council was scheduled to officially receive the letter at its Nov. 27 meeting, where it would normally vote to accept the resignation.

The remaining council members are Fentiman, Jim Gourley, Jim Bean, Eric Markell, Scott McKee Jr. and Rich Rowley.

Typically, the council will open the position up to qualified applicants and appoint a replacement, Martin said. The council has conducted interviews of council applicants in the past.

Council members will decide what process it will use at a meeting, possibly the Nov. 27 meeting. Applicants must be registered voters who have resided in Sweet Home for at least one year.
