City property officially ‘Quarry Park’ now

The Sweet Home City Council approved the official naming of Quarry Park during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The park, located at 3101 Zelkova St., has been referred to as Quarry Park for a number of years.

The city acquired the 233-acre property from Linn County in 2018. Giving it a formal name provides support for future development and marketing.

City Manager Jason Ogden reminded council the park name can be renamed later, if a future City Council or partnership warrants its renaming.

In other business, the council:

  • Agreed to hire Miller, Castleton & Flinn for city prosecutor services in the amount of a monthly $4,500 retainer for the first year and possible additional costs in the case of legal appeals.
  • Approved contracts for design and installation of generators at the city’s water treatment plant. The generators were funded through a federal grant and local city match.
