Above, crew members from the Halsey-Shedd Fire District flip burgers and hot dogs over a barbecue flame while residents spread themselves across Halsey Memorial Park during the City of Halsey’s annual summer barbecue and movie night Friday, Aug. 22.
The fire district was tasked with barbecuing while city staff provided activities for children. Donations to Sharing Hands were accepted on this night, and the movie, “The Wild Robot,” was played as soon as the sun set.
The city also used this night to unveil its new logo, a predominantly blue and green design featuring the city’s agricultural community and grass seed industry. The city’s assistant recorder, Larissa Gangle, designed several logo ideas and City Council narrowed the choices down to three for the community to vote on.
City Administrator Briana Parra-Olkowski explained the former logo, featuring a train, didn’t translate well when printing on stationary, business cards or shirts. The new logo won by a “landslide.”
