Claude Artie Thomas, 85, of Sweet Home died Dec, 8, 2008.
He was born in Oak Creek, Ariz., to Albert Marion and Artie Mincie (Poteet) Thomas.
He served in World War II from 1942-1945. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1945 and was awarded a Purple Heart. He moved to Remote after serving in the service and then moved to Sweet Home in 1965.
He married Betty Jean on August 13, 1946 in Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
Mr. Thomas was a logger most of his life and also worked in mills. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping and family activities.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Thomas of Sweet Home; sons Bryce Allen Thomas of Walden, Colo., and Barry Jay Thomas of Sweet Home; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and all his siblings. Claude was the last living of 13 children.
A funeral service was held Dec. 16 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
