Commissioners approve transportation contracts

Linn County Commissioners Roger Nyquist, Sherrie Sprenger and Will Tucker on Tuesday, Aug. 26, approved transportation funding contracts with the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The contracts were presented by Reagan Maudlin, the Linn County Special/Rural Transportation Coordinator.

Linn County distributes the funds to local transportation programs operated throughout the county. The contracts are for the 2025-27 biennium.

The commissioners approved an agreement to receive up to $197,406 in Section 5310 Funding that will support the Senior Citizens of Sweet Home, Inc./Linn Shuttle.

They also approved receiving up to $335,026 in Small Urban 5310 Funding that will support the City of Albany/Albany Call-A-Ride program.

The commissioners approved a subrecipient agreement to receive up to $531,774 in 5311 Funding to support the Senior Citizens of Sweet Home/Linn Shuttle/Dial-A-Bus program.

The commissioners also approved a subrecipient agreement to receive up to $75,475 in Federal 5311 Covid funding to support the Senior Citizens of Sweet Home, Inc./Linn Shuttle program.

In her written report, Maudlin noted that the “Senior Citizens of Sweet Home extend their gratitude for the ongoing efforts of Linn County and the Board of Commissioners in our common goal of extending transportation to as many Linn County residents as possible through an organized and collaborative approach.”

In other business, the commissioners:

  • Were informed by Juvenile Director Torri Lynn that there were 12 young people from Linn County, four from Benton County, two each from Lincoln and Clackamas counties and one from Marion County, held by the Linn County Juvenile Department in July. There were 40 referrals in July and the victim advocate made 127 contacts. The intervention specialists are working with 175 youth.
  • Approved an Opioid Litigation Settlement Participation Agreement with Purdue and the Sackler family. Financial allocations will be made after all participating subdivisions have submitted participation forms, according to County Attorney Gene Karandy. The money will be dedicated to alcohol and drug treatment programs.
  • Approved a change order with Cascade Civil Corp for $30,720 for additional aggregate subbase for the Cox Creek: Goldfish Farm Road Bridge Replacement Project.
  • Approved the closure of Tangent Drive from 9:30-11:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, for the Tangent Harvest Festival Parade.
  • Approved the purchase of a rock quarry near Scio for $120,000 from Mary Brock, David Brock and Francis Brock.
  • Approved First-Time Youth Wage Grant agreements with Sweet Home Inc. (Figaro’s Pizza) in Sweet Home, the City of Mill City, Wirth Farms, Mercy House International Inc., Koos Seed Co. and Pono Bowl Co.
