Commonwealth argument is old

Editor:

The discussion between Mr. Rowley and Mr. Cantrell, about who controls the commonwealth (America, to be specific in their discussion) was addressed in the 17th Century.

If both were to take a look at the writings in Thomas Hobbes’ “Leviathan,” they would see this subject almost exhausts itself in detail. In Chapter 12 Hobbes writes: “Men (generic term) have received culture from two sorts… one sort have been they that have nourished and ordered them, according to their own inventions.

“The other have done it by God’s commandment and direction.”

This discourse of Hobbes is lengthy and you may have plowed through part of it in some political philosophy course in college.

I suggest to both gentlemen try Cliff Notes or some other quickie source rather than the original. My hat’s off to both of you for being thinking individuals.

An active brain with healthy mental processes, just like milk, “does a body good.”
