During a traffic safety blitz from Feb. 10 to Feb. 26, officers from Sweet Home Police Department conducted 96 traffic stops, issued five verbal warnings for safety belt violations and issued five citations for failure to use a seatbelt, according to Sgt. Jason Van Eck.
Overall, they issued 113 verbal warnings and 27 citations.
Along with agencies around the state, Sweet Home police participated in the blitz in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Transportation. Officers spent patrol time looking for drivers, adult passengers and children who were not in or using proper safety restraints.
Overtime during the blitz period was focused on maintaining and increasing public compliance with safety restraint laws.
