Cops’ ‘torch run’

Sweet Home and Lebanon police officers, led by Sweet Home Police Chief Jeff Lynn, center, run along Main Street Tuesday, July 1, during a “Torch Run” (minus the torch) in support of Special Olympics. Due to staffing shortages, Lynn said, the runs were only held in Sweet Home and Lebanon city limits rather than doing the entire 13 miles between the cities. The statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run, held July 7-12 this year, represents a long-standing tradition during which more than 800 law enforcement volunteers and Special Olympics Oregon athletes will relay the actual Flame of Hope to the Summer State Games Ceremonies in Newberg.
