Correction: Arrestee in DUI case wrongly identified in crime report

An entry in the Public Safety log of the July 11 edition of The New Era contained errors that require correction.

Stephen Michael Aziz, 63, should have been listed as having been arrested at 2:27 p.m. on June 30 for driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Multiple callers had reported a red Mitsubishi Gallant hitting a guardrail on Highway 20 near milepost 25.5, just outside the west city limits, leaving debris on the roadway, and continuing into Sweet Home, according to Oregon State Police. One caller followed the driver to the 500 block of 5th Avenue, where the caller reported a subject getting out and barely able to walk.

An OSP officer arrived to take the driver, Aziz, into custody.

Due to a reporting error, William L. Chenowegh, 77 (spelled Chenowith in police reports and by us, originally), who was a witness to the incident, was incorrectly identified as arrested.

The New Era staff takes accuracy very seriously and we apologize for this error.
