The Huskies lost 2-0 to Cottage Grove at home on Oct. 6 in what is probably their best performance this year.
Fielding only 11 players because of injuries and other issues, the team was showing improvements all game, said Coach Ryan Regrutto.
Cottage Grove scored once in the first half and then again about halfway through the second as a forward slipped around a Husky defender for a short shot up the middle.
“The kids that were out there worked hard,” Regrutto said. “We’re moving in the right direction. We’re really excited about tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) game. The kids are in the right mood.”
With the winless team approaching the end of its season, they’re “fighting for personal pride,” Regrutto said. “I can’t fault them for anything they’re doing.”
The Huskies will host Junction City Thursday in their last home game of the season.
Junction City is a very technical, good team, Regrutto said.
The Huskies lost 9-1 at Junction City the last time the two teams faced each other.
The Huskies have a smaller field, Regrutto said, and that should help as most of his team spends all 80 minutes on the field.
