Council interviews of city manager candidates scheduled for Aug. 31

The Sweet Home City Council met Aug. 24 in an executive session to select candidates to interview for the city’s open city manager position. a

Interim City Manager Christy Wurster said the city had received 21 applications, including candidates from across the country.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, the council was scheduled to interview candidates using Skype, a video chat computer application, in the City Council chamber, 1140 12th Ave., in the City Hall Annex behind City Hall. The council planned to interview 10 candidates. The interviews were open to the public.

Following the interviews, the council planned to enter a closed executive session to select finalists.

Cascades West Council of Governments consultant Eric Wolke planned to score, rank and recommend candidates to the City Council based on the a city manager profile developed by the council.

Wurster told the council last week that cities typically interview three or four finalists.

The council approved up to $750 each for travel expenses for candidates attending the final interview.

Final interviews are scheduled for Sept. 19. That day, city officials will provide a tour of the city to the finalists, followed by lunch with department heads. A meet and greet is scheduled for noon at the Jim Riggs Community Center.

Final interviews will be completed beginning at 4 p.m. at the Jim Riggs Community Center, 880 18th Ave.

The interviews will be open to the public.
