The Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce forwarded an email recently from the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce warning that a counterfeit $10 bill had been passed in Lebanon.
The bill was passed in late May and apparently “very genuine looking.”
The bill was printed as “Series 2009,” with the serial number JK71080860A.
“We have not received any reports of it,” said Sweet Home Police Chief Jeff Lynn.
Lebanon hasn’t contacted Sweet Home police to report a rash of counterfeits, he said, but people should keep an eye out for them.
“I haven’t seen very many good ones since I’ve been working,” Lynn said.
Anyone with a question or concern about a particular bill should contact the police, Lynn said. Officers are trained to recognize counterfeit bills. The Secret Service also maintains a list of tips on how to spot counterfeit bills at its website.
One of the keys is the texture of the bill, he said. The bills also contain many features that are difficult to duplicate.
“Take it and compare it to another one,” Lynn said. “In our small community, we have yet to encounter significant amounts of high-quality counterfeits.”
