Fred V. and Edi (Stanton) Smith celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Sept. 1 with many of their family and friends at their home in Brownsville.
The Smiths were married Sept. 3, 1949 in the Crawfordsville Community Church. They both grew up in Crawfordsville and were sweethearts all four years at Sweet Home Union High School.
They had eight children: daughter Sally Wilson, who died in a 2007 airplane crash; daughter Susie Hays of Brownsville; son Freddie and daughter-in-law Barbi of Tangent; son Dan and daughter-in-law Gloria of Gulfport, Fla.; son Scott and Debbie of Brownsville; daughter Edi-Sue and son-in-law Chuck Smith of Foster; son Chucky and daughter-in-law Annette of Holley; and son Skip and daughter-in-law Julie of Brownsville; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The Smiths moved to Brownsville in the early 1960s. They both were involved in city government and Central Linn schools. They owned and operated Brownsville Sand and Gravel for many years. Edi also worked part-time for Dr. Worthern, a local dentist.
Both enjoy reading and entertaining family and friends. They are happily retired in their “Cabin in the Woods” on the Calapooia River in Brownsville.
