Couple exchange vows in Guatemala

Nathan Earl Snyder and Luisa Maria Rivera exchanged wedding vows at 6 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Catholic Church ?Iglesia Escuela de Cristo? in Antigua, Guatemala.

The couple met in Antigua last September when Mr. Snyder attended a Spanish-language school, helped in an orphanage and was sightseeing with friends.

Parents of the groom are Sweet Home residents Robert and Candice Snyder. They traveled to Guatemala for the ceremony along with their daughter, Caitlyn Snyder, and friend of the groom, Ryan Hightower.

Mrs. Snyder is the daughter of Luis and Vicky Rivera of Escuintla, Guatemala. She wore a white satin wedding gown with embroidered floral bodice and full-length train, which was previously worn by her aunt, Rosa Arllete Acevedo.

Rosa and another aunt of the bride, Lully Anna Nowell, were the bride?s attendants. Nieces and nephews of the bride were flower girls and ring bearer. Floral arrangements of gladiolas, calla lilies, peach roses and Shasta daisies adorned the altar and also composed her bouquet.

Following the ceremony the wedding party traveled by horse-drawn carriage down the cobblestone streets of historic Antigua to the reception at the elegant villa of Robert De La Oz.

Floral arrangements, created by the bride, groom and family, adorned the pillars on the courtyard surrounding the garden as well as floral and candlelight centerpieces on the tables.

More than 100 guests enjoyed the fiesta, which included a catered dinner and salsa dancing. Rita Rivera, sister of the bride, sang several special songs for the newlyweds.

Mr. Snyder is a 2003 graduate of Sweet Home High School and attended Linn-Benton Community College last year.

Mrs. Snyder graduated in 2003, second in her class from Instituto Normal Para Senoritas ?Olympia Leal.? She began college last year with studies in dental science at University of San Carlos.

Mr. and Mrs. Snyder will reside in Guatemala until the late fall. They plan to move to Oregon to continue their college graduations.

Robert and Candice Snyder plan to hold a reception for the couple at that time.
