Court seminar a group investment

Editor:

Thank you for investing in the lives of young ladies in Sweet Home and supporting the tradition of Sportman’s Holiday!

Committee members Kristin Adams, Ben Dahlenberg, Michael Hall, Wendy Younger and I had a vision to provide a poise and leadership workshop for a larger group of young ladies and after hours of preparation and support from our community that became a reality.

Special thanks to Doris Johnston and Pacific Power as our Keynote Speaker and for providing the lovely lunch; Michael and Mira Hall, The Point Restaurant, for catering a four-course meal with Shelly Blackford and Margaret Ellis-Oar volunteering their time to serve; and Pastor Matt Coleman and the Hillside Fellowship Church for opening their church to us.

Also special thanks to former royalty, Charlene Adams, Wendy Younger, Amy Paul Maynard, Chelsea Frick Augsburger and Kimber Swanson, who led and assisted with sessions on poise, core values and mock interviews and shared memories of their reign on The Sportsman’s Holiday Court.

Ashley Zeigler, Miss Oregon International 2013 was an awesome addition working with the young ladies on poise, walking and public speaking. Marge Wilson’s provided etiquette lesson during lunch, Teresa Davis gave tips on building resumes and interviews. Thanks to them and also to John Smith assisted with set up and clean up and sound, Michelle Knight Design for beautiful flowers, Stephanie Rice for photography and Rose Peda and Charlene Adams for assisting with mock interviews.

We were pleased that Alex Paul of the Albany Democrat Herald, and Sean Morgan of the The New Era, joined us for lunch and thank them for the great newspaper articles about our workshop and especially their support, personally and professionally, of our program.

Thank you to each of you for giving back and investing in the lives of these young ladies. I’m so grateful to live in Sweet Home and be a part of a community that supports the history and tradition of Sportsman’s Holiday.
