Custin Jones, Jr., 21, of the Albany area, pled no contest Monday, April 11, for his participation in an attack on 13-year-old Gavin Doner on Feb. 9 in the Sweet Home High School parking lot.

Jones was charged with third-degree assault, riot, recklessly endangering another person, and second-degree disorderly conduct. He is scheduled for sentencing on Wednesday, April 20.

Judge Keith Stein is hearing Jones’ case.

Dakota Alan Ray House, 18, also of Albany, was arraigned on Feb. 22 for the same incident. The state entered a notice of intent to seek an enhanced sentence if House is found guilty, based on the defendant’s criminal history, the fact that the victim was particularly vulnerable, and the offense involved deliberate cruelty to the victim.

His case is being heard by Judge Rachel Kittson-MaQatish.

Doner, a Sweet Home Junior High student, was jumped and beaten by a group of older teens near a Sweet Home High School parking lot on Feb. 9.

In addition to the two adults, police have arrested four juveniles suspected of participating in the incident: a 15-year-old Sweet Home girl, and a 14-year-old boy, 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy, all from Albany. Their names have not been released.

All face third-degree assault and disorderly conduct charges; House faces other charges, as well.

Doner was treated for his injuries at an area hospital.
