Crawfordsville Bridge Day this Saturday

Crawfordsville Bridge Day will return this year, with the traditional community gathering this Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Organizer Elizabeth Eisenman, who operates Covered Bridge Pottery next door to the bridge, said the event will be bigger and better this year, with more vendors and more activities during the day. Bridge Day was canceled last year and Eisenman said she and other organizers wanted to make sure it happened this time around, which will be the 25th time the event has been held, longtime organizer Sue Claassen said.

“We want to try to recoup what didn’t happen last year,” said Eisenman.

Eisenman said she has teamed up with Claassen, Mary Jean Crawford and Sharon Leader, who have been the primary forces behind previous Bridge Day celebrations, to organize the event.

This year’s celebration will include more and new vendors, she said, including food sales, fine jewelry, boutique and fine art and a knife maker. The event will also include a special ceremony to honor Ruth Powers, who recently retired as Crawfordsville postmaster, from noon to 2 p.m.

Eisenman said the Covered Bridge Society will hold its monthly meeting on the bridge during the day and a visit from the Austin Healey Club of Oregon is expected.
