Crawfordsville will hold its annual Bridge Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the historic bridge at the corner of Highway 228 and Courtney Creek Drive.
The free event will celebrate the 90th birthday of the bridge, which was built in 1932. It was bypassed by Highway 228 in 1963 and is now maintained by the Linn County Parks & Recreation Department as a pedestrian bridge across the river. Since 1990, the bridge has been the site of a Bridge Day festival held annually in the summer. A small park next to the bridge includes a picnic table and fire pit.
Food will be available, provided by Crawfordsville Calvary Chapel church, and vendors will sell their wares, said organizer Elizabeth Eisenman.
“This is mostly about food and alumni,” said Eisenman, who owns MudMom Covered Bridge Pottery across the street from the bridge.
“We’ll have tables and chairs for the elders and we’ll have a coloring contest for the kids.
“This year is about getting the community together and making next year’s Covered Bridge Festival better.”
