Injuries curtailed Coach Billy Snow’s cross country squad’s standings Thursday at Cascade, but didn’t dampen the veteran coaches hopes for a strong season.
“On the varsity side, Alex Ritzman had a PR and Anthony Ertsgaard showed a lot of moxie by finishing the race despite an injury that was hurting most of the way,” Coach Snow said. “Peter Vanderlip’s time was about 30 seconds faster than he ran all last season on that distance.”
For the boys varsity, Vanderlip was 38th in 19:39, Ritzman was 46th in 19:59 and Ertsgaard was 56th in 20:37. There were 85 runners.
For the boys JV, Sam Crain and Jess Keys had season PRs at 3000M. The JV team was third overall.
Only three Husky girls ran the varsity course at 5,000 meters. Jessica Trautwein, Ashley Danielson and Chelsea Hackworth all took their first stab at the distance.
“Ashley had a great race and ran as fast per mile for the 5000M as she did last week for the 3000M,” Coach Snow said. “Jessica’s time is just short of her lifetime PR set last year at the district meet. Chelsea’s race was a good one for her first cross country race.”
On the JV side, Danyel Cranford, Heidi Darden, Staci Grove, Diane Kennelly and Heidi Wilson all recorded PRs for the season.
Calendar: The Huskies will host their home meet Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Camp Tadmore. Saturday they will compete at the three course challenge at Seaside.
