Curtis Brown

June 15, 1922 – June 2, 2012

Curtis LeRoy Brown, 89, of Sweet Home died June 2, 2012 at home under hospice care.

He was born June 15, 1922 in Eureka, Calif. to Roy and Anna (Roth) Brown.

He joined the NYA-National Youth Administration and received training in airplane engine repair at Sacramento’s McClellan Air Force Base for one year. He was drafted into the United States Air Force in 1942 and served at McClellan Field and overseas in Scotland until he was discharged in 1946.

Mr. Brown lived in California until 1959, when he moved to Alaska for a year before moving back to California. He moved to Springfield in 1962, Madras in 1967, Laurelwood in 1968 and to Spirit Lake, Idaho, from 1974-1995. He then moved to Cave Junction in 1995 and to Sweet Home in 2006, where he lived the remainder of his life.

He worked at the Arcata Barrel Factory and at the mechanic and tire shop, for a building contractor for two years, and then farmed for a few years. In 1964 he became a cabinet maker and general carpenter until he retired.

Mr. Brown liked to repair things. He helped people fix things and helped build churches and houses. He liked to do plumbing and electrical jobs. He enjoyed church activities.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 62 years; four sons, Olaf and daughter-in-law Lori Brown of Sprucedale, Ontario, Canada, Adrian and daughter-in-law Judy Brown of Floresville, Texas, Galen and daughter-in-law Peggy Ann Brown of Sweet Home, and Wendell and daughter-in-law Debra Brown of Lebanon; three brothers, Irvin Brown of Hesperus, Colo., Larry Brown of Ukiah, Calif., and Jim Brown of Cottonwood, Calif.; two sisters, Shirley Valentini of Sacramento, Calif., and Patricia Archer of Curlew, Wash.; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his brother, Harlan Brown, in 2010.
