Crawfordsville Bridge Day drew dozens of residents and former residents Saturday afternoon.
Visitors traveled from as far as Lacey, Wash., and Fox Island Wash. Among them were Allison Hers, Georgia “Sissy” Clem Moore and Lenora Clem. Clair C. Kelley of Nevada was also among visitors. He was involved in building the bridge that is now the pride of the community.
Visitors reminisced about old times and the history of Crawfordsville, once a booming, industrious community with the first Oregon grist mill.
On a new date this year, visitor and vendor turnout for the event was low, organizer Sue Claasen said. The event changed dates because of the Oregon Jamboree’s new August dates. Many regular visitors and vendors were ill over the weekend.
The event did draw a group of bikers, Claasen said, and she and others had a good time chatting with them.
Birdhouses and lawn ornaments were among the new attractions among vendors at the event, and Tyla Fuson was present with her painted saws.
The best part of the day, “you get to see some people you haven’t seen” in a long time, Claasen said.
