Santiam Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented its “Good Citizen” awards on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at a tea held at the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon. The awards are presented annually to outstanding high school seniors demonstrating the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Having been chosen by his or her respective school, each student entering the scholarship competition submits personal information pertaining to his or her service to the community, school or church and completes an essay of not more than 500 words. Receiving the first-place Chapter Award was Julianne Robinson from Lebanon High, who later also placed first in the state competition; Elizabeth Reardon of East Linn Christian Academy placed second; and William McCartin of Sweet Home finished third. As a part of the program, representatives from the American Legion, under the leadership of Dale Blanshan, gave an informative presentation on folding and etiquette for the American flag.
