David Barrett

Oct. 7, 1948 – Oct. 17, 2017

David L. Barrett, 69, died Oct. 17, 2017 in Casper, Wyo.

He was born Oct. 7, 1948 in National City, Calif., to William and Juanita Barrett.

Mr. Barrett worked various jobs in his lifetime, but primarily as a heavy equipment operator for construction all over San Diego, Calif.

He proudly shared his Christian faith with co-workers and friends which earned him the nickname of Deacon.

He loved the old west and often read and retained its history. His choice to retire to Wyoming was not a surprise.

One of the highlights of his many visits to Cody, Wyo., was celebrating his 50th anniversary with his wife on July 1, 2017.

Mr. Barrett’s ability to tell stories since childhood was long-proven through the requests of his proud grandchildren, who often said to him, “Tell us another story, Papa.”

He was well-loved and is greatly missed by family and friends who look forward to more stories from him in heaven.

Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Janet (Clay) Barrett; daughter Shannon and son-in-law Troy Pinkerton; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a second great-grandchild expected in August 2018, all of whom continue to reside in Glenrock, Wyo. His surviving sisters are Diana McCurdy of Sweet Home, Judith and brother-in-law Terry Erxleben of Queen Creek, Ariz., and his twin, Deborah Barrett of Sweet Home.

Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David C. Barrett of Sweet Home. His adopted daughter, Patty (Murphy) Barrett, died shortly following his death in October.

Interment for Mr. Barrett is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19, at Lewis Cemetery. A family luncheon will immediately follow graveside services.
