David “Dave” Louis Barstad

December 27, 1944 – April 22, 2024

David Louis Barstad, fondly remembered as “Iron Man,” left this world on April 22, 2024, in McMinnville, at the venerable age of 79.

Born on December 27, 1944, in Silverton, he lived a life marked by bravery, kindness, and an indomitable spirit. A decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War, David’s life was a tapestry of service and adventure. His love for hunting and knack for repair were matched only by his skill in weaving tales that captured the imagination of all who had the pleasure of listening. His charismatic presence attracted a circle of friends that spanned far and wide.

David’s heart belonged to his family, a source of endless pride and joy. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Sue; his children, Tami and adopted son Nick; his stepchildren, Beth, Laurie, Marq, and David; his siblings, Carolyn, Shari, Roger, and Bob; and a legacy carried on by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in passing were his parents, Melvin and Gladys; his brother, Gerald; and his son, David Jr.

His legacy is one of valor and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. David’s absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the honor of knowing him.

A commemorative service will be held in his honor at the Sweet Home VFW on June 8th at 1 pm, where we will celebrate the remarkable journey of a true hero among us.
