Sabrina Davis was named the Sweet Home High School girls varsity basketball team’s Outstanding Player of the Year during the team’s annual awards dessert held on Feb. 20.
The award is decided by team vote.
Also receiving team awards were Nicole Bell, Sportsmanship Award, and Haley Kent, Hustle Award.
Kendell Anderson received the Free Throw Award, based on the statistic.
Emily Marchbanks received the Coaches Award.
Receiving first-year letters were Marchbanks, a junior; Taylor Dermates, a senior; Ashley Stewart, a senior; and Caytlin Gillespie, a sophomore.
Receiving second-year letters were Jordan Miller, a sophomore; Kent, a junior; Jade Corliss, a junior; and Harlee Brendle, a junior.
Seniors Anderson and Bell received their third letters.
Davis received her fourth.
The girls recorded two wins during the season.
“Overall, I think it was very positive,” said Coach Kerstin Brosterhous. “They worked hard, and they continued to work hard.”
They still believed every game that they could change the way they were playing, Brosterhous said. The team achieved one of Brosthous’ goals when it focused on defense. Her goal was to make the teams worry about the Huskies’ pressure, and they did that.
The junior varsity did well, she said. “They were pretty consistent from beginning to end.”
The junior varsity won six games and should probably have won at least two or three more, she said.
With the girls who will remain next year and JV girls moving up, Brosterhous said, the team is on a good path for next year.
