Daytime Christmas parade moving forward

Audrey Caro Gomez

“A Traditional Christmas” will be the theme of this year’s Sweet Home Christmas Parade, which is still in the planning stages.

The Sweet Home Parade Committee will host the annual event the morning of Saturday, Dec. 3.

The Chamber of Commerce scrapped its plans for a parade on the evening of Dec. 2 because it conflicted with another holiday event.

The Dec. 3 parade is pending approval of insurance, but several local businesses have stepped up to support the effort.

“We have received donations from Crocker’s Cars and The Point Restaurant,” said Debbie Walvatne, who is a member of the committee.

Walvatne said the group is hoping to raise about $1,500 so that they can cover the costs of next year’s parade.

“Nancy Patton of Trash to Treasure has challenged other business owners to match her donation of $50,” Walvatne said.

So far, she has had verbal commitments from Seemingly Creative and the Cedar Shack.

The committee will wave the $20 parade-entry fee for businesses that accept the $50 challenge.

Applications may be picked up and dropped off at Trash to Treasure or the Cedar Shack.
