Blake doing summer research project
CORVALLIS ? Oregon State University has awarded 57 fellowships to undergraduate students to do original research through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Research Program.
Under this initiative, which is now in sixth year at OSU, students receive more than $3,500 for 11 weeks of work during the summer doing laboratory and field research with a faculty mentor in such fields as biochemistry, zoology, microbiology and other areas.
Among those participating is Nathaniel Blake of Sweet Home. He is majoring in honors microbiology and working with Dan Rockey.
The program is supported by a four-year, $1.9 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, which aims to enhance the teaching of biological principles to college and pre-college students.
OSU pharmacy graduate
With healthcare needs on the upswing, recent graduates of the College of Pharmacy at Oregon State University don?t have to look far for employment ? almost all of the 72-member class who celebrated their graduation in a recent special recognition ceremony already have jobs.
OSU President Ed Ray spoke to the graduates about the role of pharmacy as being key to optimizing the health and well-being of the public, especially as health care costs rise.
Josh Dahlenburg, son of Ben and Chris Dahlenburg of Sweet Home, is a member of the graduating class.
