Dennis Day

March 24, 1940 – Dec. 11, 2008

Dennis Wayne Day, 68, of Sweet Home died Dec. 11, 2008. He was born in Rochester, N.Y., to Robert Donald and Shirley (Tinnear) Day.

He grew up in Brockport, N.Y., where, in 1970, he established his first HVAC business with the aid of his brother, Jimmy Day.

Mr. Day was a member of Local 13 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society in Rochester, New York. He was an airline pilot/instructor in New York, where he trained Navy pilots, and was a commercial pilot in Newport News, R.I. He also worked in maintenance at Oregon State University.

During his life, Mr. Day also spent time in Providence, R.I.; and Grass Valley, Calif., before moving to Sweet Home in 1990.

He was a devoted Catholic, enjoyed working with his hands, flying airplanes, building antique cars and restoring an old boat. He will be greatly loved and remembered by all of his family and friends.

Mr. Day is survived by his sons, Anthony and Christopher Day of Oregon, and Gregory and Eric Day of New York; mother Shirley V. McBride; brothers James and sister-in-law Debra Day, and Robert Day; sisters Debra and brother-in-law Mark Laney, Lori and brother-in-law Robert Bryant, Pamela and brother-in-law Michael DiSanto of New York, and Carol Purvee of California.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Donald Day; and sister Betty Jane Day.

A graveside service was held Dec. 15 at Gilliland Cemetery.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
