Denny Sanders shows X-rays of her teeth to Kristin Albright at Hawthorne School on Monday, Feb. 6. Sanders works for the Northwest Medical Teams dental program, which includes some nine vans that travel around Oregon and Washington to provide dental treatment to people who have no dental insurance, School District 55 Nurse Joan Pappin said. Dr. Henry Wolthuis, Dr. Ivan Wolthuis and dental assistant Mayte Garcia volunteered their time. The program is funded through a grant, Pappin said, and it helped 16 students during its visit to Hawthorne, the most students treated during any of the four van visits over the last three years. Treatment may include extractions, fillings and cleaning. The program is open to every student in School District 55. Last year, Dr. Cynthia Marshall of Lebanon donated her time to treat Sweet Home students, including $5,000 in service.
