Dentistry with a Heart draws 70-plus patients

Patients line up, for free dental work provided Friday over nearly 12 hours by local dentists at Wolthuis Family Dentistry, 1524 Long St. Dentists Ron Watts, Henry Wolthuis, Ivan Wolthuis, Kyle Dimond, Tristan Parry and Nathan Tolman all participated, with help from Wolthuis staffers Tammie McCorkhill, Diana Savage, Kim Wilson, Tamara McCorkhill, Lisa Lemmer, Cheryl Wirth, Sarah Coulter, Connie Sheflin, Kellie Green, Linda Blanchard and Rebecca Wolthuis. Volunteers from the community included JoAnne McQueary, Mimi Cleland, Lin Gagner, Lori Boyd and Katie Wirth. Porta Pots were provided by Scott Weld for the waiting patients, some of whom arrived at 4 a.m. Thriftway and Safeway provided food and Holley’s and Rachel Kittson donated drinks,which were served by Sean, Brad, Jenna and Mark Wolthuis. Paul and Linda Rowton distributed fliers advertising the event, which drew more than 70 patients. Ivan Wolthuis said the last patients left at 7:30 p.m. after waiting all day on the sidewalk. No one was turned away, Wolthuis said. “All the people that came and stood in line all day were very grateful and appreciative,” he said. “Some of them were a bit sunburned, but otherwise in good spirits.
