Depleted competition cheer squad gets third in Springfield

The Sweet Home cheer squad finished third in its division at the Springfield competition Saturday after deciding to compete despite missing two members who were ill.

“I gave the girls the option of skipping but they wanted to compete,” Coach Crystal Kimball said. “They were bummed about it. They are not used to finishing third.”

The competition featured 32 teams and Kimball said the final scores had the Huskies fifth overall.

The Huskies placed second the week before at Lake Oswego. The junior high team took first in its competition.

The high school team has this week off.
