Despite heavy rains, flooding minimal

Although Sweet Home got 6.1 inches of rain last week, including 5.25 inches on Thursday and Friday alone, the area did not experience any real problems with water run-off, officials say.

“There were no significant ‘flooding’ issues except for various ditches/culverts that were temporarily blocked by road-side debris and such,” said Michael Adams, Sweet Home public works director.

“All ditches and drainage ways reached capacity for a short time.”

City employees are watching the entire system to make sure debris is clear in anticipation of future rain and possible snow, Adams said.

Sand and sandbags will be available throughout the winter in the parking lot between City Hall and the Sweet Home Public Library.

“The vast majority of our problems are along the coast and coast range routes,” said Lou Torres of the Oregon Department of Transportation.

He is not aware of any issues in the Sweet Home area, he said.
