Dinner theater production at Evangelical Nov. 14

A dinner theatre event is coming soon to Sweet Home.

The stage play, And The Word Came With Power along with an authentic Filipino meal will be presented at Sweet Home Evangelical Activity Center, 1347 Long Street, at November 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Sweet Home Assembly of God, in cooperation with Wycliffe Bible Translators NW is sponsoring the Dinner Theatre.

Joanne Shetler, a Wycliffe Bible translator in the Philippines, faces cultural challenges and spiritual opposition as verse by verse she works to translate the New Testament into the Balangao language.

The drama centers on Jo’s relationship with Canao, a respected man in Botac who, realizing that Jo is not safe living in his village without a family’s protection, announces, “You will be my daughter, and I will be your father.”

Over the next five years, Canao teaches Jo as he would teach his own children: how to eat, how to speak, and how to get along with people.

And even though, as a dutiful father, he assists Jo in her translation work, he has little interest in believing it for himself. In fact, Jo cannot seem to interest anyone in her translated Scriptures; as a young woman, this culture does not give her the right to teach anyone older than she.

And every time someone expresses an interest in believing in Jesus Christ, the evil spirits, who dominate the Balangao wreak havoc. These spirits have always frustrated Canao; he has done everthing he can to appease them, but they still took six of his twelve children.

Home for a break, Jo challenges her sending church to, in effect, adopt the Balangao as their own, to pray for them as though their lives depended on it, because they do.

And things begin to happen.

A freewill offering will be taken to cover the cost of the event. For reservations for And The Word Came With Power call 367-2038.
