School District 55’s teachers’ union and the board have reached consensus on much of the language of a new contract, but economic issues remain unresolved.
The two bargaining teams had been unable to schedule a meeting until 4 p.m. on Aug. 25. Teachers return to work on Aug. 28.
That raises the possibility that a step increase would be required regardless of negotiations on next year’s contract.
