Do math on levies before you vote

Regarding the upcoming primary election for the police and library levies on May 16, the tax assessors have made an assessed value of the average property for homes in Sweet Home, approximately $66,000, including improved and unimproved properties.

This does not give the true value of individual-occupied homes, which, looking at real estate in Sweet Home runs from $100,000 to $500,000; and I believe this is being conservative.

Take, for instance, the value of my home, assessed at $130,000. For the police levy, at $6.40 per $1,000 of assessed value, the tax would be $832 per year. Now add in the library at 62 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, and that adds another $80.60 per year.

If you look closely at the letter mailed to you, that would continue to increase up to the year 2010. I would suggest you do the math before voting on the May 16 police and library levies.
