Donald Glenn Gross, 97, of Sweet Home, died Sept. 12, 2015 in Lebanon.
He was born May 28, 1918 in Omaha, Neb. to Glenn Dowling and Margaurite (Mathewson) Gross.
He served in the United States Army Railroad Battalion # A749 from 1943-1946 during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign (Philippines) and received an honorable discharge.
Mr. Gross graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1937. He married Marjorie Bridge on Sept. 17, 1938 in Vancouver, Wash. They lived in Baker City for more than 40 years, then moved to Sweet Home in 1980. The Grosses were snowbirds in Apache Junction for 20 years. They have resided in The Oaks in Lebanon for the past three years.
Mr. Gross worked on the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years.
He enjoyed rock hounding, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Marjorie W. (Bridge) Gross; daughters Gail and son-in-law Gene Gregory of Sweet Home, and Genevieve and son-in-law Nicolas Wright of Portland; son Glenn and daughter-in-law Susan Gross of Shingle Springs, Calif.; brother Russel Gross of Gladstone; sisters Marjorie Kumpala of Amboy, Wash., Mary Ellen Cleasby of Yachats, and Lynelle Kumpala of Port Angeles, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gross was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Gross and William Gross.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
