Donald Leroy Hagle, 77, of Albany died Monday of natural causes.
He was born in Lebanon to Harry Stuart and Mayme Belle (Peck) Hagle. Don grew up in Sweet Home and graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1953.
He received his pilot’s license at 15 years old at Langmack Field in Sweet Home. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 as an airborne paratrooper. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. Don married Carol Layton in 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and moved back to Oregon to start his family and career.
Don and Carol had four children. He worked in public works in Florence, West Linn, Albany and Veneta.
His hobbies included flying planes, electric trains, building remote control planes and boats, fishing hunting, gardening and his cats and dogs.
Don is survived by his sons, James “Jim” and Kevin Hagle; daughter Sandy Hagle-Brown; brother Ted Hagle; sister Mary (Hagle) Cross; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Hagle; and his parents.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at The Christian Church, 1825 Long St., in Sweet Home.
