Donald Leroy (Don) Schlim, 76, of Sweet Home, passed away Aug. 12, 2022.
Don was born May 11, 1946, in Kansas and moved to Lebanon when he was 6 years old. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1965.
He worked as a choker setter in our local forest before enlisting in the Marines for seven years.
In his lifetime he was an airplane owner and pilot, a fishing boat captain, and a whale-watching boat owner and captain. Don was an adventurer, sailing the Pacific Ocean in his 53-foot sailboat for seven years, living the good life.
For the past 11 years he was married to Marilyn Taggart Schlim. They worked together for several years, buying and remodeling mobile homes before retiring to travel and to pursue Don’s love of hunting.
Don was a member of the Marine League in Albany, the American Legion in Lebanon and the VFW in Sweet Home.
He leaves behind his wife, Marilyn; sister Jody Upchurch; brother John Schlim; his son, Ron Schlim; two grandchildren, Quentin and Victoria Schlim; and one great-granddaughter.
A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 17, at the VFW, 580 Main St., in Sweet Home.
