Donald Mathews, 80, of Sweet Home, died Sept. 30, 2006.
He was born to Charles and Serena (Stewart) Mathews in Statesbury, Mo. He moved from Missouri to Clatskanie in his youth and graduated from Clatskanie High School. After graduating he served in the Navy in World War II.
He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1987 and moved to Sweet Home in 1997. He loved to bowl, fish and hunt.
Mr. Mathews is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Sweet Home; son, Gene Mathews of Avador; and sisters, Louise Hill of Eugene, Betty Gustafson of Portland, Julie Volkinburgh of Vancouver, Wash., June Verley of Tillamook and Jean Maddix of Moses Lake, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Mathews and his first wife, Venla (Penny) Mattila Mathews.
A memorial service will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Sweet Home Veterans Hall.
