Dorothy Eleanor Barringer

April 11, 1930 – October 24, 2024

Dorothy Eleanor Barringer, 94, of Sweet Home passed away peacefully at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. She was born on April 11, 1930, to Andrew and Emma (Paul) Degen in Alameda, California.

Dorothy “Dotty” grew up in the California Bay Area. She met her husband, Jack, at San Jose State College. They were married 69 years before his passing. Dotty earned her teaching degree and taught elementary school while Jack was deployed in the U.S. Navy. They moved to Corvallis where she worked while Jack earned a forestry degree in 1958. Soon after they moved to Sweet Home.

Dotty taught calligraphy classes in Sweet Home for Linn Benton Community College for many years. She was active in P.E.O., creating hand-crafted greeting cards to raise funds for scholarships for women. She enjoyed the social aspect of gathering and working together as much as she enjoyed creating works of art. Because of her appreciation for artistic creativity, she used her gift of teaching to help others hone and express their own skills. She loved cooking and baking and feeding her family and friends. There was always room for one more at her table.

Dotty and Jack moved to Black Butte Ranch and enjoyed many years there before returning to Sweet Home in 2014.

Dotty is survived by children: Andra Bare of Newport, Dawn Barringer, Dave and his wife Desiree Barringer all of Sweet Home and six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack D. Barringer (2022).

Memorial service will be 1 pm, Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Community Chapel in Sweet Home. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com
