Dorothy “Dort” Dean Forister, 84, died Oct. 14, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.
She was born June 27, 1926 in Quay, Okla., to Maude and Ira Wilson Collins. Raised and educated in Oklahoma, she attended beauty school and became a beautician. In 1949, she moved to Oregon, where she worked and taught cosmetology for 30 years. She was a longtime resident of Sweet Home before moving back to Oklahoma in 2004.
She loved canning, crochet, flowers and gardening, her family, fishing, clam chowder, shopping, scratch-off Lottos, and cucumber and mayonnaise sandwiches. She also loved to laugh.
Mrs. Forister was loved and touched by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Orville Forister; daughters Jimmie and son-in-law Jim Banta of Halsey; Rev. Dr. Carolyn and son-in-law David Forister-Chemel of Rapid City, S.D .; Katherine and son-in-law Don Keller of Annapolis, Md., and Jeanette Westlund of Oklahoma City, Okla .; sister Dee Blacklaw of Albany; brother Floyd “Bodie” Collins of Glenwood Springs, Colo .; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews Jodie Adams, Dena Burian Blacklaw, Mike Collins, Dan Collins, Janet Balcomb, Bill Collins and Jerry Collins.
Mrs. Forister was preceded in death by her father, Ira Wilson Collins; her mother, Maude Collins; sister-in-law Margie Collins; brother Walter “Dude” Collins; nephew Scott Collins and brother-in-law Ron Blacklaw.
A graveside service will be held in Sweet Home at Gilliland Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
