Dorothy Whitton

May 16, 1934 – March 1, 2007

Dorothy Ann Whitton, 72, of Sweet Home, died March 1, 2007. She was born May 16, 1934 in Medford to Loris Garland and Elizabeth (Nelson) Sims.

She moved with her family to Sweet Home in 1941. She grew up in Sweet Home and graduated from Sweet Home High School. She met and married Robert “Bob” Whitton in 1953; they later divorced.

Mrs. Whitton was a homemaker and lived in the family home built by her father in Sweet Home until 1993 when she moved into an apartment in Lebanon to be close to her daughter. In 2001, she moved into The Oaks retirement home in Lebanon. She had many friends and was known as “the greeter” at The Oaks because she would sit in the hallway and greet everyone as they walked by her. She loved country music and western movies. One of her favorite shows was the “Dukes of Hazzard,” which she watched almost daily on the CMT channel. She loved family gatherings and especially enjoyed the Sims family reunion every year in Canyonville.

She is survived by her sons, Robert “Dean” Whitton and Loris Whitton of Sweet Home, Mark Whitton of Bend; daughter Marlene Leland of Lebanon; sister Virginia Wasson of Salem; brother David Sims of Sutherlin; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Loris and Elizabeth Sims.

Viewing will be 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 8, 2007 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
