Douglas Ashman

Douglas George Ashman, 83, of Eugene died Oct. 17, 2011.

He was born Sept. 29, 1928 in Fort Worth, Texas to Giles Henry and Lorene (Eiting) Ashman.

In the early 1930s the family moved to Klamath Falls, where Douglas attended first grade. They moved to Glendale before moving to Roseburg in 1944 where he finished school.

Mr. Ashman worked on and around the trucking industry. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and spent two years in Okinawa during the Korean war. He met and married Mary Coyne in 1954.

He owned two service stations, one in Roseburg and one in Medford, but went back to the trucking industry in 1958.

He moved to Springfield in 1960 and to Eugene in 1977. He worked for Borden Chemical for 23 years and received many safe-driving awards before retiring in 1996.

Mr. Ashman is survived by his wife, Mary; son Steven Coyne; daughter Diana Hooker; and brother, Marvin Ashman.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to a charity of your choice. Private family services will be held. Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.
