Dr. Tom Wogaman elected LBCC board chairman

The Linn-Benton Community College Board of Education elected new officers for the 2003-2004 year at its annual organizational meeting July 16. Dr. Tom Wogaman, representing the City of Corvallis (zones 6-7), replaces Janice Horner, representative for south and east Linn County (zone 1), as the Board’s new chair.

Wogaman has been an LBCC Board member since February 1992, and previously chaired the board in 1993-1994 and 1999-2000.

“I’m a great believer in the community college movement,” Wogaman says. Wogaman is on the Oregon Community College Association’s board of directors.

He is also a past Corvallis School District superintendent. Joseph Novak was elected vice chair. Novak joined the board in 1981. He is a representative for north and west Linn County (zone 2-3). Novak and his wife are owners of Novak’s Hungarian Restaurant in Albany. After studying electro-mechanical technology in Hungary, he worked as a senior research and development analyst on North American Rockwell Corporation’s Apollo Command Module project and as a lead quality assurance specialist technician with Lockheed and Arc corporations. LBCC Board of Education members govern Linn-Benton Community College.

The seven members are elected by Linn and Benton county residents to serve four-year terms. The board of education’s authority comes from the voters, the state constitution, Oregon Revised Statutes, rules and regulations of the Oregon State Board of Education, and from its own policies and procedures.

The other five board members are Richard Wendland, Hal Brayton, Janice Horner, Marshall Johnson and Ann Brodie.
